This work illustrates an ambivalent relationship to fire during the July 2022 heat wave and fires, due on the one hand to generalized ecoanxiety and on the other hand, to the meaning that the object acquires through wood-firing in the ancestral Japanese kiln Nanban nakishime. This technique for firing raw ceramics, without glazing, takes 38 hours. It is the wood ash and movement of the flames that decorate the piece’s surface.
