D’abord inspirée par la population rom de la région de Šutka en Macédoine, la série Peuple dilué de Naghmeh Sharifi traite de la notion de peuple par opposition à celle de nation. Ce faisant, l’artiste considère le corps comme une forme universelle en suspension sur un fond sans profondeur ni dimensions. Dans ce contexte, la dilution réfère à la fois à une des propriétés de l’encre (perte de pureté) et à une façon de représenter la communauté et les individus en mouvement.

Initially inspired by the Romani population of the Shutka region in Macedonia, with Peuple dilué Sharifi investigates the notion of being a people versus a nation, considering the body as a universal form in suspension against a background absent of depth and dimension. In this context, dilution refers to both a property of ink - as the weakening of purity - and a way of representing community and individuals in flux.
