The Artifacting series, which Mick Sand created in collaboration with the McGill Redpath Museum, is focused on a small collection of Roman and Etruscan artifacts from the museum’s World Cultures Collections. Through this body of work the artist questions how contemporary digital conditioning informs our relationship to these ancient art objects and, consequently, shapes our view of the past. To reflect his line of questioning the artist used a mixture of contemporary techniques including digital photography, photogrammetry, and 3D modeling to catalog these ancient art objects against vibrant backdrops reminiscent of the RGB and CMYK colour models.
