Comment une civilisation se raconte-t-elle sa propre histoire? En quoi un musée constitue-t-il un instrument recodifiant le passé d’une nation? La série Museum porte un regard sur le Musée égyptien du Caire en tant que métaphore du récent climat politique du pays et de sa relation avec l’Antiquité. En 2019, les artefacts s’y trouvaient toujours, en attendant l’ouverture plusieurs fois reportée de deux nouveaux musées. On ne sait trop ce qui demeurera sur place et ce qui sera déplacé. Le passé et le présent sont des territoires contestés.

How does a civilisation tell itself its own history? How is a museum a political instrument to recodify device to a nation’s past? The series Museum observes Cairo’s Egyptian Museum as a metaphor of the country’s recent political climate and relationship to antiquity. In 2019, the artefacts awaited the much-delayed opening of two newer museums, what is to remain and what is to be moved remains unclear. The past and the present are disputed territories.
