FAQ

SELECTING ARTWORKS

How does the AVC work?

Every year, the professional jury of the AVC selects new artists and artworks via a call for submissions. Artworks are consigned in the Collection for a standard period of 3 years. The new artists and artworks are launched in May.

How do I see the available artworks? What if I want to buy one?

Go on our online gallery at www.artvoltcollection.ca and browse through the artworks of this year’s cohort! Visit the artist pages to learn more about each artist. You may filter your search and browse by medium, artists or artworks. Once you’ve found an artwork that you’d like to purchase or rent, simply indicate your interest by clicking on the “Enquire” button, and one of our advisors will follow up by telephone or email to complete the process.

How does the rental service work?

All the artworks in the AVC are available for rental unless otherwise noted on our website. Rental prices are separated in 5 distinct categories (A, B, C, D and E) based on a percentage of the total framed value of the work in question. Works may be rented for either six months or one year at a time. See this chart for rental prices:

Categories based on sale framed value of work

A. 0-$250

B. $251-$500

C. $501-$1000

D. $1001-$2000

E. $2001 +

There is a lot to choose from in the AVC, I don’t know where to start. Can I have some guidance?

Of course! An art advisor can meet with you by phone, over video call or in person. They can make recommendations according to your preferences, needs, space and budget.

What is the best way to display artwork in my home?

An art advisor can help you with that too! We offer advice on location, display and conservation.

If, once the rental period of an artwork is over, I decide to buy the artwork, can I have a discount?

Yes. The amount you paid for rental is deducted from the sale amount.

DELIVERY + INSTALLATION

Does the AVC offer a delivery and installation service?

Yes. Clients who rent artworks are required to use the AVC delivery service to ensure the quality of conservation standards. Clients who purchase artworks may opt to use our installation service at their own cost.

What is the range of the AVC’s delivery service?

For rentals and sales, the AVC delivers to the Greater metropolitan area of Montreal (island of Montreal + nearby suburbs). For sales, artworks may be shipped internationally, at the expense of the client.

Is the delivery and installation service provided by the AVC insured?

Yes. Once the artwork is taken into the care of an AVC technician, on its way to a client or being installed, the artwork is protected by insurance.

If, during the rental period of an artwork, it gets damaged, will I have to pay for it?

Yes. During the rental period, the artwork is under your responsibility. A proof of insurance will be required upon signing the rental contract.

INVESTING IN THE ART VOLT COLLECTION

How can I be sure that my purchase is a good investment?

The works available for rental and sale in the AVC have been selected by a professional acquisition committee whose job is to acquire works of the highest artistic merit. While no investment is 100% guaranteed, you may rest assured that AVC artworks have been selected for their quality, value and artistic relevance in today’s professional art market.

How much do artists receive from the sales and rentals?

As a service that supports emerging artists, 70% of the value of sales and rentals goes to the artists and 30% to the Art Volt Collection, compared to most commercial galleries that operate with the 50%-50% ratio. By choosing the Art Volt Collection, you directly support emerging artists at a pivotal phase of their careers!
