Alberto Franco

Trained in Print Media, Alberto Franco is particularly fond of screen printing and copy machines. His work is graphic research influenced by image semiotics, exploring how an image and its interpretation can be transformed. Mixing analog and digital technologies are a central to his practice. Influenced by glitch art and circuit bending, Franco diverts consumer electronics such as home printers and VHS tapes from their intended use. By tinkering with the image making process, Alberto alters the meaning making process. Through his workflow, he creates puzzling imagery situated between abstraction and figuration. In an era saturated with digital images, Alberto seeks to provoke in the viewer a moment of doubt and contemplation and make them ponder how the image was created.

Alberto Franco obtained his BFA in Print Media at Concordia University in 2022 and worked as a graphic designer for Les productions culturelles Hiatus. He is currently studying in Germany at the School of Visual Combinations, a graphic design Master’s program at the University of the Arts Bremen (HfK Bremen).
